The Creative Path to Establishment

The project targeted foreign-born women who face challenges such as segregation, loneliness, and limited social networks. With support from Kulturförvaltningen i Stockholms stad, participants gained access to safe environments to practice Swedish, strengthen their self-confidence, and break isolation in order to improve their living conditions.

The project targeted foreign-born women who often face structural challenges such as segregation, involuntary loneliness, and limited social networks. With support from Kulturförvaltningen i Stockholms stad, participants gained access to safe environments in which to practice the Swedish language and strengthen their self-confidence. The program enabled these women to break isolation and improve their living conditions.

Our project created a platform for foreign-born women to strengthen their empowerment and cultural participation through handicrafts. By combining traditional techniques with contemporary expressions, we promoted gender equality, democracy, and social integration in Swedish society.

Method: Safety and Participation

By offering safe meeting spaces, participants are encouraged to share their unique prior knowledge while developing new skills. We work with a participant-led methodology in which creativity functions as a shared language. This contributes to:

  • Strengthened self-esteem and improved mental health.

  • Expanded social networks and language practice in natural contexts.

  • Reduced isolation and an increased sense of belonging in society.

We offer an inspiring program filled with co-creation and culture. Through our activities, we build bridges between people and conclude each project with public exhibitions where the participants’ creativity takes center stage.

Our activities are carried out locally in Rinkeby (Järva) and Sätra (Skärholmen) and consist of three main components:

1. Workshops – Open House

Our workshops are open to everyone! These are creative activities where you can drop in, try different crafts, and get to know us in a relaxed environment. Perfect for those who want to explore their creativity for the first time.

  • Mosaic & Water colour painting

  • Felting & embroidery

  • Quilling & Knitting

2. Advanced Courses:

For those who want to further develop their craftsmanship, we offer courses with a focus on technique and quality. Under the guidance of experienced instructors, you can dive deeper into:

  • Mosaic

  • Felting

3.  Exhibitions

We believe in making voices visible through art. Each course period culminates in a public exhibition where the participants’ unique works are showcased. This is a source of pride for our participants and a contribution to a more vibrant and diverse local cultural scene.

We would like to conclude by thanking Kulturförvaltningen i Stockholms stad for their valuable support, which made it possible for us to carry out this project. Thanks to their contribution, we have been able to create safe and inclusive meeting spaces, strengthen the empowerment of foreign-born women, and promote cultural participation. The project has not only provided participants with new skills and social networks, but has also contributed to a more vibrant and diverse cultural life in our local communities. We look forward to continuing to build on these experiences and inspiring more women to take part in creative and empowering activities.

SFI Visits

To present our project and reach new target groups, we visited SFI classes (Swedish for Immigrants), where we shared information about our courses and invited participants to take part in our creative and inclusive activities.

Skärholmen Evaluation Gathering

We held an evaluation of the felting course together with a casual fika in Skärholmen. While we mothers talked and evaluated the course, the children prepared their own fika. It turned into a wonderful and very successful evaluation session.
